- Project status: Delivered
The challenge
The existing Android application covered complex asset inspection workflows, including hazardous-area electrical and instrumentation inspections, but it was platform-locked.
The client directed a move to React Native so the same product could reach iPad users without maintaining a separate native codebase for each platform.
Our approach
Worked as a partner on a React Native rebuild of the field inspection app, following the client's technology choice and preserving the operational behaviours inspectors already relied on.
Focused on offline-first data, structured multi-step inspection forms, media capture and synchronisation with the existing backend - with iPad as a first-class target alongside Android.
The solution
Delivered a React Native TypeScript app for field asset inspections, designed for Android and iPad.
- Multi-step inspection forms with photo capture, comments, defects and signatures
- Offline-capable local storage and background sync with conflict handling
- Multi-tenant company switching, role-based access and Azure AD authentication
- Field-oriented navigation for hazardous area and emergency lighting inspection workflows
The outcome
Inspectors gain a cross-platform app that keeps offline field workflows while opening up iPad as a supported device.
- One React Native codebase aimed at Android and iPad
- Offline inspection capture with sync when connectivity returns
- Continuity with existing inspection concepts and form types
The React Native app was delivered as a partner engagement, ready for use across both platforms.
Technology
A React Native stack chosen for cross-platform delivery without giving up offline field capability.
- React Native & TypeScript
- React Navigation
- WatermelonDB & AsyncStorage
- Image picker, signature capture, NetInfo, Keychain
